UCI WORLD CUP SALZBURG, AUSTRIA
There's something special about the opening round of a new UCI World cup season. Everybody trains specifically for this event, trying to get the best possible result and get a good start to the international season. Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, played host to the first round and provided a great setting the season opener.
Nicolas Vallée, ranked #1 in the current 26" UCI ranking, arrived in Salzburg fully fit and ready for action.
An amazing setting for a trial on the Residenzplatz.
Alejandro Montalvo was in unstoppable form in Salzburg.
Sunday morning was hefty with massive thunderstorms making the 1/2 finals quite a lot harder than first anticipated.
Adam Morewood easily qualified for Sunday's 20" 1/2 finals after a great ride during the quarters.
All the winter preparation pushed Morewood to a higher level coming into the World cup season.
19th place and a first top 20 career finish for Morewood was a positive start to the new season.
Despite a shaky start in section 1 in the 20" final, Montalvo brilliantly recuperated in the super tough 2nd section and maintained his cool to the final section.
What a great start to the season. Team work makes the dream work.
Congrats Alejandro on another great UCI World cup win. At just 19 years old, Montalvo has won already won 3 UCI World cups in his career.
An unfortunate slip up in section 3 during the final pushed Nicolas Vallée back to 2nd position in the 26" results. He'll be super motivated to finish one position higher at the next World cup in Italy at the end of August.
